Something very, very, very, very, very good happened to me today. You see, two weeks ago we were assigned an essay about the Bubonic Plague, due last Friday. It was supposed to be fiction. We were to write about what would happen if we had a time machine and went back in time to the time of the Black Death and told people the symptoms, how to control it, and what would happen if they did nothing. So that’s what I did. In mine I went back in time (wearing my pajamas and hibiscus colored Converse All-Stars) and a cobbler named Alexios took me in because he liked my shoes. While I was there (which was a few weeks) I built a wall between the Silk Road and the town I was staying because I thought it would help, seeing as the plague was spread from Asia along the Silk Road. Of course, it didn’t work. So we took it down and I actually started helping people by helping them clean up and start bathing and things like that. But by that time Alexios was so sick with the plague he was pretty much doomed. At the end things are better, even though Alexios dies, and I go back home. We were supposed to write two paragraphs.
Mine was twenty pages.
Anyway, we got them back today. My grade was A++++++++. Or, in Dr. E’s words, “A to the eighth power.” He liked it so much, in fact, that he asked if I would be interested in getting it published. When I got the news from my friend, who is also a very good writer and is also to get hers published with Dr. E’s help, I screamed. I stayed the entire homeroom and first period with my chin practically in my lap. I had to ask Dr. E if it was true during passing period. So yeah, it’s just me and my friend Teresa whose essays are so good Dr. E is looking for a publisher.
I’m so excited! Now that I “have my foot in the door,” as my dad says, I have a better chance of getting published more and a better chance of getting into School of the Arts (a high school totally dedicated to the arts). If I write more short stories I can totally give them to Dr. E to get them published! I’m so excited! Today was probably one of the best days of my life. God, I love my school.
