SFPL Writing Contest

A couple months ago I found out about a vampire writing contest hosted by the San Francisco Public Library. It was to celebrate the release of the latest Twilight movie. I entered, even though I abhor Twilight. I wrote a short story describing the transformation from human to vampire and I submitted it last month. Actually, there was a little difficulty submitting it, because the day before it was due I planned on submitting it, to give it my maximum attention before I had to turn it in. But that day I couldn’t find it. I searched all over my computer, in the recycling bin, in every folder in my documents, everywhere. I panicked pretty badly, but it was gone. So my dad got on my computer and recovered some deleted files, and there it was. It had somehow been deleted, but the important thing is that I got it back.

Anyway, I submitted it that day. It said on the website that the winners would be notified on July 20th. Well, July 20th came and went and still no email. I had been prepared to be disappointed, so I shrugged it off. But then I found an email in my inbox from the SF public library saying:

Dear Laura,

Congratulations!  We are pleased to inform you that your submission to SFPL’s Teen Vampire Writing Contest, “The Transformation“, has been selected as our first place prize winner!  Please attend the Teen Vampire Extravaganza to receive your prize.
I won! I freaking won! I was so excited. I’m still so excited. It’s crazy. It’s unreal. This is the sort of thing that always happens to other people, isn’t it?
Anyway, if you want to read the story, you can find it here.
I wonder what the prize is.
